Background
Originally created in 1966, the Romulus exudes the excellence of the unsurpassably creative CORUM spirit, with the first ever watch to display the hour numerals on its bezel. The story begins shortly before the 1958 Basel Fair, when a potentially disastrous situation caused by a delay in the delivery of dial hour-markers occurred. CORUM vividly demonstrated its genius by adorning these new models with “bare” gold dials. A few years later the Romulus was born.
Today, Romulus returns in an elegant steel version with a boldly contemporary design. Its “wave-profile” round bezel creates the impression of a curving elliptical shape, while its polished surface highlights the satin-brushed finish of the Roman numerals engraved in steel.
The satin-brushed case is rimmed with a fine brilliant-polished bevel that extends past the lugs to run over the satin-brushed outer links of the steel bracelet. The screw-down case-back is engraved with a laurel crown in tribute to the heroic founder of ancient Rome: Romulus.
Beneath its steel armor, Romulus houses a self-winding movement featuring rhodium-plated bridges and plates that are beveled and polished in keeping with the traditions of Haute Horlogerie.
A cambered, shaped sapphire crystal protects a grey or black dial with 6/12 guilloché motif and steel appliques. It shows the date through a window at 3 o’clock and the 42-hour power reserve by means of concentric disks at 7 o’clock. The time-setting crown is struck with the CORUM key logo, protected by a sapphire.
This model is fitted with a leather strap or a steel bracelet. The latter, characterized by brilliant-polished central links and satin-brushed side links, is secured by a steel triple folding clasp with a double lateral push-button safety-fastening mechanism with CORUM engraving, and conceived according to an exclusive CORUM technique and design. The black calfskin strap with a steel insert ensuring perfect integration with the case is fitted with the same triple folding clasp as on the steel bracelet.
