It takes just the right combination of heat and pressure occuring deep in a volcano vent to create diamonds below the earth. This unique geological storm is ultimately what yields the incredible chemical properties of a diamond. But replicating the results of this natural process (the creation of beautiful diamond crystals) in a laboratory setting has long been an elusive problem. Since the middle of the 20th century when General Electric produced the world's first manmade industrial diamonds, a great deal of effort was put forth, but it wasn't until very recently that producing scaleable quantities of gem quality diamonds was even possible.
Armed with a much more sophisticated process than General Electric's pioneering days, Pure Grown has evolved into an industry leader who has mastered that perfect storm in a laboratory, creating 'above-earth' diamonds that are not only beautiful and gemologically identical to mined stones, even a master gemologist can't tell them apart under any power of magnification. This quantum leap in quality over traditional industrial-grown stones has effectively yielded the result that engineers and gemologists have been pursuing for the better part of the last fifty years; a disruption that will likely forever change the diamond industry as we know it.
The birth of a Pure Grown diamond is an interesting one indeed – it's a process called Chemical Vapor Deposition (commonly referred to as CVD) that can take up to nine weeks from the moment the plasma chamber is heated and filled with hydrogen and carbon, which creates a firestorm that literally hails carbon crystals onto the starter diamond seed. It's worth noting that this alchemy is markedly different than the process for laboratory stones grown specifically for industrial use in a high pressure / high temperature (HP/HT) environment. After several weeks growing in this proprietary chamber, the uniquely shaped raw diamond is carefully cut, faceted, and polished by master craftsmen to yield the fiery and brilliant stone destined for fitment to the many engagement rings, wedding bands and earrings in Topper's extensive Pure Grown selection.
The physical and chemical properties of these Pure Grown stones don't lie: a diamond is a diamond. Even the Federal Trade Commission agrees, according to a recent FTC ruling that ultimately sided with science and amended its definition of a diamond as a stone mined from the earth, to being more simply defined as pure, crystalized carbon. And since every Pure Grown stone is a rare Type IIA diamond rough (diamonds which carry little or no nitrogen atoms in their crystal structure), the finished result is an exceptionally pure stone that's as brilliant as it is rare and highly desirable. In fact, only 2% of the world's below-earth stones are this type of crystal, which is widely regarded as the most desirable type of rough diamond.
Unlike mined stones, each Pure Grown stone comes with the ironclad assurance of being a more sustainable, more environmentally-friendly alternative completely free of any potentially associated conflict or human rights issues which can be a worry with some natural stones. But that's only half the story: a Pure Grown diamond also enjoys a sharp reduction in price over an identical mined alternative – anywhere from 30 to 40%, meaning your budget suddenly goes a lot further, enabling you to obtain a bigger, brighter stone for the same price.
