The 1938 Military Heritage Collection

To get a sense of the theme in this collection,

Shown below is a comparison of a the 40mm model to a WWII era vintage Longines watch that recently appeared on Topper Pre-owned Select. This is a watch which was delivered by Longines to a U.K. agent in 1945 but with a movement from 1928. The WWII piece is slightly smaller at 38mm, but when one looks at the hands and markers, one can see how closely this collection of watches resembles Longines original pieces. The new collection features modern elements that were not available in the 1930s such as a sapphire crystal.

at 40mm, the basic 3 hand model is a little larger than this example of a WW2 ERA Longines Watch.

The 40mm version features a relatively narrow 18mm strap. Most 40mm watches at Topper feature 19 or 20mm straps.

The case back of the 40mm Military 1938

When looking at the strap on the 1938 models, the point of reference most people will probably think about is the Longines Legend Diver. At Topper, the Legend Diver has been the most popular of the heritage models, and, as a side note, we were thrilled that we were able to aquire some additional pieces of the non-date model. Even though the 1938 Military is stylistically influenced by the easy to read watches that were produced before and during World War II, and the Legend Diver is inspired by the Longines early dive watches of the 1950s, both pieces feature sail-cloth straps. Though the material may be the same for the two collections, the proportions are different. The Legend Diver features a thicker strap with a 22mm lug width, while the Military pieces feature a thinner strap with an 18 or 19mm lug width.

The Legend Diver (shown here in non-date) also features a sail cloth strap)
